The Roadrunners split their series against the Lone Star
Brahmas this weekend, winning the game on Friday and losing the second game of
the series on Saturday. The Runners came
out firing on all cylinders scoring a goal in just 11 seconds after the opening
drop of the puck. Tyler Poulsen, who
assisted on the first goal by Michal Uhrik, added a powerplay goal minutes
later to take the Topeka lead to 2-0. Over
the next 16 minutes the Brahmas scored 4 unanswered goals to stun the Roadrunners,
who came in to the series tied for first place in the division. The Runners cut the deficit to one with about
four minutes remaining in the game, but gave up an empty net goal to bring the
final score of the contest to 5-3 in favor of Lone Star (2-7-1). Topeka picked up a win and a loss on the
weekend bringing their overall record to 6-3-2 for the 2013-2014
season. The Runners are still tied for
first place in the division with Wichita Falls at 14 points, but Wichita has
played one less game. This upcoming
weekend the Roadrunners will face the third place team in the division, the
Amarillo Bulls, in a two game series.
These games began a twelve game road trip away from Landon Arena.
In the spirit of “Pink the Rink”, I was given
a festive wig to support those fighting breast cancer. The pink jerseys the team wore for the two
game series this past weekend were auctioned off to raise money for research
for those afflicted with such a hardship.
